Chang Pyung-Kee

Kim Dong-Chang
Abstract
Knowledge of the superficial veins in the cubital region with variants is directly needed for the safety and survival of the patients in operative procedures. This study was undertaken to find out the modus of the origins and distributions with their variants of the superficial vein in the cubital region based upon 67 dissections of Korean male and female which were fixed with formalin. The results were summarized as follows; Three basic pattern types were noted. Type ¥° had a Median cubital vein joining the cephalic and basilic veins in the cubital region. Type ¥° was the most common pattern. (74,6%, Rt. 53 case; 79.1%, Lt. 47 case; 70.1%) Type ¥± had the cephalic vein itself draining into the basilic vein in the cubital region. Type ¥± was 6.0% of all case. (Rt. 3 case;4.5%, Lt. 5 case; 7.5%). Type ¥² showed the absence of a direct communication between the the cephalic and basilic veins in the cubital region. The Median vein of the forearm in these latter cases joined either of the cephalic and basilic veins (Type ¥²A) or after bifurcating into a median cephalic and a median basilic vein joined both these veins (Type ¥²B). Type ¥²A was 13.4% of all cases (Rt.8 case; 11.9%, Lt. 10 case; 14.9%) Type ¥²B was 6%, af all cases (Rt. 3 case; 4.5%, Lt. 5 case; 7.5%)
